Ajax Real Estate
The Ajax real estate market is one that continues to grow rapidly. As one of the top performing markets in the GTA, the Town of Ajax is the place for those looking for water, fun, and an easy commute anywhere in the GTA. Located on the shores of Lake Ontario, Ajax is considered a bedroom community to Toronto. The Town of Ajax has the longest stretch of undeveloped public beachfront in all of the Toronto area which continues to bring many buyers to the area.
The Town of Ajax has a population of over 109,600, according to the 2011 Canadian Census, and is continuing to grow. Ajax has experienced the highest population growth rate in all of GTA at over 20% as well as an increase of 20% in the number of households between 2006 and 2011. Also, according to the 2011 Canadian Census, the average household income in the Town of Ajax is approximately $88,000 which is higher than the national median income after taxes of $54,089. The value of homes in Ajax is approximately $333,000 (2013), which is higher than the $280,000 national average. However, this does not prevent growth in the Ajax real estate market. The availability of property and new construction and the affordability of being able to purchase more square footage for the money than in other parts of the GTA continues to attract new and previous home buyers alike.
DEMOGRAPHICS OF AJAX
Established in 1941, the Town of Ajax was named after the HMS Ajax, a cruiser from the British Royal Navy that served in World War II. Demographics indicate that English is the mother-tongue of the Town of Ajax with over 70% of its residents speaking English. After English, 2% of the population respectively speak Urdu, Tagalog, and Tamil and 1% of the population each speak Farsi and Arabic. With a dependence on automobile transportation, traffic congestion continues to be problematic in the Durham Region and this is no different for Ajax. However, the area is serviced by Durham Region Transit as well as other Durham transit services allowing residence to access employment with some of the area’s largest employers including Dupont, Volkswagen Canada, and Rouge Valley Health Systems.
It is estimated that approximately 30% of the town’s residents are immigrants and more continue to immigrate to the area each year. With its easy access to Toronto’s downtown, employment opportunities in the GTA, and an attractive housing market, the Ajax real estate market will continue to grow for years to come.
